Interested high school students can get acquainted with the life and medical science research of the University of Debrecen, the latest test methods, and the most modern tools at the Summer Science Camp of the Sántha Kálmán Technical College. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the two-week program, which began on Monday, is being held again.
The participants of the Summer Science Camp can gain insight into the latest research at the University of Debrecen, and with the help of their professional tutors, they can get to know the work and research methods of a chosen institute in practice.
19 high school students came to this year’s camp, who can listen to a presentation about, for example, what can be examined from human blood, what role enzymes play in diagnostics and research, what are the basic laboratory techniques, but also learn useful information about the management of scientific databases. They can also participate in hemostasis tests and hematology exercises. At the end of the camp, the high school students report on their experiences to their peers and tutors.
In 2009, the Sántha Kálmán Vocational College of the University of Debrecen started its talent management program for high school students interested in life sciences. In addition to academic programs, students can also participate in many leisure and entertainment programs during the two weeks.
Established 35 years ago, the Sántha Kálmán Vocational College aims to provide an opportunity to acquire professional and general education that goes beyond university education, considering talent management to be of utmost importance. The college was named after Kálmán Sántha, a famous professor of neurology at the University of Debrecen.
