American actress Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles in Nashville, Heroes and the horror series Scream, has died at the age of 36, The New York Times reported Monday, citing a statement from her family.
In a statement, the actress’s father wrote: “It is with profound sorrow that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden.” The statement added that she brought immeasurable love and joy into the lives of everyone who knew her, as well as to the millions of fans who watched her on screen.
Panettiere was previously in a relationship with former heavyweight boxing world champion Wladimir Klitschko, with whom she has a daughter.
Panettiere rose to prominence with her role in the 2000 film Remember the Titans, starring Denzel Washington. She later played cheerleader Claire Bennet in the television series Heroes. She also starred in Nashville, earning Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress in 2013 and 2014 for her performance. She also appeared in two installments of the Scream television series.
The actress’s autobiography, This Is Me: A Reckoning, was published this spring. In the book, she openly discussed her struggles with addiction, including postpartum depression and her use of alcohol and opioids. The cause of her death has not yet been disclosed.
